Q: How will alert.uconn.edu be used in the event of an emergency?

Should an emergency occur, the University will activate UConnALERT. Information and instructions regarding the emergency situation will be posted as they are available on the alert.uconn.edu website. Alert.uconn.edu is the University’s definitive source for information during an emergency. The website may activate a blog on the homepage for more frequent updates.

Q: How can parents/guardians receive UConnALERTs?

UConnALERT only allows students, staff, faculty and affiliates to register email addresses and cellphone numbers. However, UConnALERT distributes messages to the www.alert.uconn.edu website, the University and regional campus homepages, the official UConn Facebook and Twitter pages and, most importantly, the myUCONN mobile application. It is recommended that parents/guardians with a smart phone, that wish to receive alerts, download the myUCONN app and enable “push notifications.” The app can be downloaded here: http://mobile.uconn.edu/

Q: Do I need to “dial out” using a landline phone to access 911?

You can dial 911 directly from any landline there is no need to dial out. The Kari’s Law Act of 2017 requires direct dial access to 9-1-1 services from all devices.

Q: Does this website post updates about the status of UConn Health?

Yes, but ONLY in critical emergency situations that could pose a danger to life or safety. For information on weather-related delays or cancellations, UConn Health will still communicate via https://health.uconn.edu/closing-and-cancellations/ or at 860-679-2001. All other campuses will have weather-related scheduling changes updated via UConnALERT.

Q: Can community members or University visitors receive UConnALERTs?

UConnALERT only allows students, staff, faculty and affiliates to register email addresses and cellphone numbers. Q: I have an international phone number. Can I receive UConnALERTs?

Yes, currently Faculty and Staff may enter an international phone number into the Faculty/Staff Registration Page to receive emergency notifications via text. In order to receive the text messages on the international phone, the user must enter the appropriate international code where applicable. Students must ensure that they have entered the appropriate country code, where prompted, in order to receive alerts. If you do not enter the country code, or you enter text rather than numbers, you will not receive alerts.

Q: I am a fan of UConn Athletics, but I am not a student, faculty member, or staff member. Is there a way for me to receive UConnALERTS regarding UConn football or basketball games I may attend?
