Frequently Asked Questions - Athletics

Q: Is there a way for me to receive text message alerts regarding UConn football games at Rentschler Field?

Yes. By texting the keyword UConnGameDay (the keyword is not capitalization-specific, so all caps or no caps will also work) to 888-777 on your mobile phone, you will be registered to receive text message communications and alerts during UConn football games that take place at Rentschler Field. You will receive a confirmation message telling you how to unsubscribe if you choose. There is no charge, but your mobile provider’s messaging and data rates may apply.

Q: What about UConn basketball games at Gampel Pavilion?

By texting the keyword UConnGampel (the keyword is not sensitive, so all caps or no caps will also work) to 888-777 on your mobile phone, you will be registered to receive text message communications and alerts during UConn men’s and women’s basketball games that take place at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. You will receive a confirmation message telling you how to unsubscribe if you choose. Please note that you should not expect to receive messages through UConnALERT at away games, or games that are played at the XL Center in Hartford. There is no charge for the service, but your mobile provider’s messaging and data rates may apply.

Q: What about UConn Athletics events besides football and basketball?

At this time, UConnALERT text messages will only be sent during football games at Rentschler Field and men’s and women’s basketball games at Gampel Pavilion. If more Athletics events are added, this page will be updated and there will be additional communication through email and social media channels.

Q: What types of messages will be sent via UConnALERT at football and basketball games?

Messages are most likely to be sent out shortly before an event, during an event, or immediately after an event. In any given situation, you may receive no messages at all, or you may receive multiple messages about such situations as heavier-than-normal traffic delays, adverse weather conditions, or other factors that may impact attendance of the event. Additionally, in the event of an immediate danger to health or safety, the UConnALERT system will be used to communicate urgent information, along with other communications media.

Q: As a parent, vendor, or other regular visitor to the UConn community, I have already signed up for alerts by texting the keyword UConnALERT to 888-777. Do I need to sign up separately for football and basketball event alerts as well?

Yes. The keyword UConnALERT is specifically reserved for immediate dangers to health or safety. Advisories about traffic, adverse weather, or other non-emergency situations at football and basketball events will not be sent to you if you have only signed up to receive messages with the keyword UConnALERT.

Q: I plan to attend only one football or basketball game this season. Am I going to receive messages from every game, even ones I don’t attend?

You will receive messages from every game as long as you remain subscribed to the UConnGameDay and/or UConnGampel message services. To unsubscribe at any time, simply text the word STOP to 888-777. You can also re-subscribe to UConnGameDay and/or UConnGampel at any time. There is no charge, but your mobile service provider’s messaging and data rates may apply.

Q: I like to travel for UConn football away games, and I mostly attend basketball games at Hartford’s XL Center. Will I receive messages from UConn about these games?

No. You will receive messages from the UConnGameDay and/or UConnGampel services only for football games played at Rentschler Field, and men’s and women’s basketball games played at Gampel Pavilion. The best way to receive non-emergency information about away games or games at the XL Center is to follow the social media channels of UConn Athletics.

Q: If I am a current UConn student, faculty member, or staff member, do I need to sign up for UConnGameDay and UConnGampel alerts to receive messages?

Yes. As a current UConn student, faculty member, or staff member, you are already enrolled for UConnALERT email notifications, and should be enrolled for UConnALERT text messages. These channels are reserved for critical information about situations that could potentially impact health and safety. Messages about non-emergency traffic delays or adverse weather at football games or on-campus basketball games will NOT be sent via these channels. In order to receive messages about football games at Rentschler Field and/or on-campus men’s and women’s basketball games, you still need to sign up for UConnGameDay and/or UConnGampel messages.
